September is usually the month where kids in school learn about Johnny Appleseed. We used this week to learn about everything apples!!!
Monday: Learned about the life cycle of apples. We did an activity that included coloring, cutting, and gluing.
Tuesday: Apple Tasting! We took a closer look at the outside of an apple and the inside of an apple. We compared the different apples with one another to find differences (color, size, etc.) and similarities (core, seeds, stem, etc.). We then taste tested the different kinds of apples and rated whether we like (happy face) or dislike them (sad face). As a group, we tally up the ratings and did a WHOLE group rating. Needless to say the consensus is, WE ALL LIKE APPLES!
Wednesday: We made a drop-down book to showcase the life cycle of apples. The kids had a lot of fun playing with the book and trying to figure out how it worked. As a bonus, I did a memento for the kids to bring home to their family. A hand/footprint turned into an apple to always remember how small and tiny those hands/foot were.
Thursday: Sensory Bin Fun - The kids explored a bin full of different items that included different textures, shapes, sizes, tools, etc. This is a great way for the kids to explore, develop and enhance those fine motor skills, and play!
Friday: Coming Soon! :)
Sensory bags and bins are a great way for kids to get messy, be creative, explore different colors, materials, texture, promote fine motor skills and more!
We are always exploring different bags to create with the kids. We also have different themed sensory bins for each month to play with. Check out our bin for the month of September in the pictures below. We are already in the process of procuring items for our October bin.
Drawing and coloring together is a group activity that we like to do here at Little Nest. The kids help with creating a picture - in this picture, we created a town. They gave all of the suggestions and then afterwards, worked together to color it in.
This help to build social skills with other children. It helps learn the concept of taking turns (using a particular marker/crayon/color pencil, etc.), and so much more! The creative freedom for the children is super fun to see in action.
Painting is just one of the many ways that the kids create art at Little Nest. They are introduce to different tools to use, given different concepts to explore, and encourage to create however they feel like.
